Snowfall in Republic City
That Brief Shining Moment When Non-Bender Oppression Was Actually Acknowledged And Korra Had Her Views Challenged For About Five Seconds Before Going Away And Never Being Brought Up Again
nnnnnngh
Yeah I think they kinda missed the focus of the show a bit. At the beginning it seemed more like the issue of racism and discrimination between benders and non-benders. Looked very promising. But at the end it was just shoehorning in the forced relationship aspect and how fighting solves everything.
This is probably my favorite scene in the whole series, and probably my favorite episode too, just for this.
Here we get to see some of the oppression, which was excellently done here - we see their desperation, their need for a hero, and how they really don’t get equal rights.
Also my favorite for the police brutality - it shone a lot of light on real life parallels with the police both abusing their power and following an oppressive and powerful ruler with the justification “we’re just doing what we’re told,” which is in no way what is right.
“You’re our Avatar too” was one of my all-time favorite lines, too. I actually paused the show and waited to think on that and let it sink in when I rewatched it. Because it’s true, and Korra’s here standing up for these benders that are getting their bending taken away. But they’re not the main victim here - the non-benders are being oppressed and have been and will continue to be.
It’s the age-old saying: “Ignoring something doesn’t make it go away.” I really hope this is dealt with in the future, because this one scene held so much promise.
When I watched this the first time, my hand was over my mouth, and I remember how horrified and how fast my heart was beating. Every time I watch it, it just reminds me all of the parallels and places that could’ve and should’ve been explored.
Still. Undoubtedly my favorite scene and probably episode. So much could’ve been gleamed from this and so much wasn’t. Nonetheless, this scene was there, and touched on emotions that are rarely touched on in TV so honestly.

they may or may not be “singing”.katara’s eyebrows are brown because she dyes them (not because i had an -oh shit- moment realizing her hair should be gray).

Her eyes are beautiful!
BEAUTIFUL!!!!

Who run the world? Girls!
Because these badass bitches deserve a drawing.

THIS IS SO FREAKING COOL :DDRe-uploading since it was missing a frame. On another note, I didn’t bother to erase my fingerprints at all. Turned out pretty cool!
