The third issue with this is the nagging thought that no matter how much Mercedes complains about being second to Rachel, I will always immediately think that it’s the writers who made it that way. Mercedes hasn’t had a decent storyline handled even remotely well, and her character has been reduced to sassy black girl stereotypes, complete with a catchphrase. The only reason that Mercedes has ever been in Rachel’s shadow is because the writers neglect her.
